Rockefeller Center: Top of the Rock

“Buoy created an ‘impossible drone selfie’ at Rockefeller Center by merging real-time data and Unreal Engine, letting Top of the Rock visitors virtually soar 70 floors high.”

When Top of the Rock overhauled its visitor experience, we powered a next-level attraction that defies drone flight restrictions above 40 floors. Building on a generative photobooth by web3 photographer Diana Sinclair and a refreshed “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper,” we developed a real-time Unreal Engine scene that captures weather and time-of-day data for each unique selfie video. A ruggedized camera, interactive screen, and controlled lighting simulate a drone’s ascent from ground level to the 70th floor, delivering an unforgettable sky-high keepsake without leaving the deck. This marriage of cutting-edge tech and iconic history redefines the modern observation experience.
