“We partnered with 8th Wall to unveil their new Lightship Visual Positioning System by turning Times Square into a massive AR gallery featuring Ukrainian artist Artem Humilevskiy’s ‘Giant’ self-portraits.”

In late September 2022, Buoy served as the launch partner for 8th Wall’s latest web-based Lightship Visual Positioning System - showcasing how augmented reality can reclaim public spaces. Collaborating with Ukrainian artist Artem Humilevskiy, we virtually ‘hijacked’ Times Square with a towering series of digital self-portraits anchored precisely in the physical environment. This bold spectacle highlighted the potential for public AR installations to spark dialogue and invite deeper engagement in the urban landscape. By merging cutting-edge technology with immersive art, the Giant Art Takeover demonstrated a fresh approach to civic spaces, amplifying an artist’s voice and reimagining how we experience the world around us.
